The new Scala and Kamiq: practical details and stronger character

The innovated compact Škoda Scala and Škoda Kamiq urban SUV are being unveiled. The cars have been given a number of practical upgrades and design changes to accentuate their character.

The popular Škoda Kamiq and Škoda Scala models have undergone a number of changes, particularly in the areas of design and practicality. The new Scala has an even sportier feel than the original, while the Kamiq exudes a more rugged SUV character. The Scala’s looks are even more inspired by the Vision RS concept, while the Kamiq takes some details from its SUV siblings, the Karoq and Kodiaq.

The radiator grille of Škoda Scala, for example, has been redesigned so that its vertical slats emphasise the contrast between glossy and matt surfaces. The Kamiq has also seen changes to the radiator grille, which now gives an even more confident impression. It’s more upright and slightly chunkier, with double ribbing, and here too there is a bold contrast in finishes.

Both the Scala and the Kamiq have LED headlamps as standard, and customers can now opt for the top-of-the-range TOP LED Matrix headlamps, even for the urban SUV. These headlamps allow the driver to keep full beam on at night, while smart technology prevents glare from other road users. When it was launched, the Scala was the first Škoda model to get the Škoda lettering on the rear instead of the Czech carmaker’s traditional logo. Now both updated models are getting the new lettering, which Škoda recently unveiled as part of the makeover of its corporate identity.

A wide range of choices

As part of their upgrades, the Kamiq and Scala have also taken inspiration from the Enyaq electric SUV, with customers able to choose from six interior designs. There are three trim levels, Essence, Selection and Monte Carlo, with a range of traditional sporty details such as black body elements, sports seats and adjustable ambient LED interior lighting.

For the Essence trim level, customers can choose the Studio design option with black cloth upholstery. The Selection grade gives a choice of four interior designs. The Loft variant brings grey upholstery for the seats and decorative elements, while the Lodge version uses Suedia material with decorative elements in copper. The Suite version features leather seat upholstery and chrome decorative elements, while the Dynamic version has upholstery in a combination of fabric and Suedia material. And finally, the Monte Carlo version comes with the Carbon leather upholstery of the same name. The Czech carmaker also uses more sustainable materials for both models.

New air conditioning controls and a virtual pedal

Both the Scala and Kamiq continue to be powered by tried-and-tested fuel-efficient TSI units with outputs ranging from 70 to 110 kW. Inside the cars, digital technology has been upgraded, with a digital instrument cluster as standard and an optional 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit. The infotainment display has a diagonal of 8.25 or optionally 9.2 inches, and the air conditioning control panel has been redesigned and given new rotary mechanical controls.

Of course, modern safety and assistance systems or connectivity functions come as standard. And there’s a whole host of Simply Clever features, including some firsts for their respective segments: both models can have an optional electrically operated fifth door with virtual pedal function for easy hands-free opening of the boot.
